Soundwave music week – Free online music festival

⭐Soundwave Music Week is a free online music festival that will take place on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 July 2020 streamed live on our Facebook and YouTube pages (19h-21h).  (A small surprise might be online on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 July).

The Alliance Française de Potchefstroom, in partnership with the North-West University, and in collaboration with Wallonie-Bruxelles International (Belgium), the Alliance Française of Durban and the Deutsch-Französisches Institut (Germany) is creating this music festival to bring us together as a community in support of our local and “Francophone” artists.

We have 8 artists (local and international) who will be performing for free on our Facebook & YouTube pages. Here is the line-up :

3D exhibition by Philiswa Lila & the NWU Gallery

SKIN, BONE, FIRE: First Album is a solo exhibition where Philiswa Lila explores different mediums and materials to create her artworks.  Through the use of animal skins, beading, wood, paper, canvas and video, Philiswa says, “I explore the physical, mental and spiritual spaces kept close by personal experiences and stories. I am particularly interested in the notions of meaning, emotions and memories related to humans and animals.”

Who is the artist?

Philiswa Lila is the 2018 ABSA L’Atelier Gerard Sekoto Award winner. After winning this prestigious award, she completed a residency in the famous Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France. She has also been listed as “the artist to watch” by Dr Eshter Mahlangu. 

Born in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, Philiswa has completed an Honours degree in Curatorship and is currently busy with a Master’s Degree in Art History. However, she enjoys working across all disciplines of the art industry from creation to installation.

SKIN, BONE, FIRE: First Album est une exposition d’art dans laquelle l’artiste Philiswa Lila explore différents supports et matériaux pour créer ses oeuvres. à travers l’utilisation de peaux d’animaux, de perles, de bois, de papier, de toile et de support vidéo, Philiswa déclare : “J’explore les espaces physiques, mentaux et spirituels en relation avec les expériences et histoires personnelles. Je suis particulièrement intéressé par les notions de sens, d’émotions et de souvenirs liés aux humains et aux animaux”.

Qui est l’artiste?

Philiswa Lila est la grande lauréate du prix ABSA L’Atelier Gerard Sekoto. Après avoir gagné ce prix prestigieux, elle a été résidente à la très célèbre Cité internationale des Arts de Paris en France. Elle a aussi été cité comme “L’Artiste à suivre” par Dr Esther Mahlangu.

Née à Mthatha dans la région du Cap Oriental, Philiswa Lila est détentrice d’un “Honours degree” (correspond à la 1ère année de Master en Afrique du Sud) en tant que conservatrice de galerie d’art. Elle est actuellement entrain de compléter sa dernière année de Master en Histoire de l’Art.  En effet, elle aime travailler en interdisciplinarité dans ce milieu, passant de la création à l’installation d’oeuvres d’art.
